DETROIT, Dec. 14, 2011 — The board of directors of civil engineering and surveying firm Giffels-Webster Engineers announced that Scott Clein has been appointed as the firm’s next president and CEO, effective December 14. In this position, Clein oversees the day-to-day management of Giffels-Webster Engineers and will continue to head the firm’s Detroit headquarters. Clein succeeds Loren Crandell, who remains a partner with the firm and head of the Birmingham, Mich., branch office.

Clein has been with Giffels-Webster Engineers for 15 years and has supervised the design and implementation of hundreds of projects throughout Southeast Michigan, including roads and infrastructure rehabilitation, institutional developments, streetscapes and greenways, study and master plans, airports and private developments. His expertise lies in helping public and private clients successfully plan, design and implement the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.

He is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Louisiana, Ohio and Arizona, and holds the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design Accredited Professional certification.
Clein is a member of the Economic Club of Detroit, American Institute of Architects Michigan Chapter, U.S. Green Building Council and a graduate of Leadership Detroit XXXI with the Detroit Regional Chamber. He earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Wayne State University and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan. Clein also serves as a member of the Planning Board of the City of Birmingham.
